What is the Big Evanston Block Party? The Big Evanston Block Party is a music-focused street festival taking place on August 25 & 26, 2018, at the intersection of Chicago & Dempster in Evanston, IL. This event is curated by SPACE and powered by Half Acre Beer Company. The fest caps off SPACE’s summer of Out of Space events celebrating the venue’s 10th anniversary.

Do I need to buy tickets? This event is free with a $5 suggested donation at the gate benefiting Rainbows for Children. Donations are cash only; please plan accordingly. We highly recommend RSVPing through our event pages (August 25 here; August 26 here) to receive important event updates and announcements.
Where is the concert? The event will take place at the intersection of Chicago & Dempster in Evanston’s Main Dempster Mile. The main entrance will be located on the west end of Dempster at Chicago. The east entrance will be located at Dempster and Hinman.
Please note: SPACE is presenting the event, but the festival is NOT located inside the venue.
Will Union and SPACE be open during the block party? Union will be open with extended business hours on both Saturday and Sunday (Please check back for exact times). The Union Squared beer garden will also be open for the duration of the festival. SPACE will be closed until just before doors for Saturday and Sunday’s aftershows (9pm on Saturday; 6:30pm on Sunday).
Will Dempster St. businesses remain open during the Block Party? Yes, Dempster Street businesses will remain open during the street festival, but we highly recommend checking appropriate websites and social media outlets for potentially adjusted hours.
SPACE is in the company of many wonderful Main Dempster Mile Businesses, and we encourage you to visit their storefronts before, during or after the Big Evanston Block Party. You can also visit the Main Dempster Mile website and directory for more to see, eat and do in our neighborhood.
What are my public transportation options?

  • Please click here for directions to the Big Evanston Block Party at Chicago & Dempster and select your mode of transportation for detailed directions.
  • If traveling by El, the main entrance is located a half-block east of the Dempster Purple Line stop.
  • If traveling by Metra, Chicago & Dempster is a .7-mile (about 15 minute) walk south of the Davis Street Metra Station.
  • If taking a rideshare, our friends at Lyft have made it even easier. There will be a special drop off location just outside the main entrance at Chicago & Dempster, from which you can walk right into the concert.
  • If biking, plenty of racks will be available just outside the east entrance at Dempster and Hinman. Bikes should be locked up and are left at the owner’s discretion.
  • We strongly discourage driving to this event as the Main Dempster Mile is a bustling business district and parking is extremely limited. If you do drive, consider parking in the Sherman Plaza Parking Garage in downtown Evanston and walking over.
